Honorary Doctorate Policy

Policy Statement:

Mainseed Christian University (hereinafter referred to as “the University”) may confer Honorary Doctorate Degrees to individuals of exceptional distinction and accomplishment who have made significant contributions to society, their respective fields, or to the mission and values of the University. The conferral of Honorary Doctorate Degrees is a solemn and meaningful recognition of outstanding achievement and dedication.

Purpose:

The purpose of this policy is to establish clear and consistent guidelines for the selection, nomination, and awarding of Honorary Doctorate Degrees by the University.

Criteria for Selection:

The following criteria shall be considered when selecting individuals for Honorary Doctorate Degrees:

1.    Exceptional Contributions: Nominees must have demonstrated exceptional contributions to their field, society, or humanity at large. This may include outstanding achievements in academia, the arts, sciences, business, philanthropy, leadership, or other areas of endeavor.

2.    Alignment with University Values:
Nominees should align with the mission, vision, and values of Mainseed Christian University, which emphasize faith, service, leadership, and the pursuit of knowledge for the betterment of society.

3.    Ethical and Moral Character: Nominees must exhibit a strong commitment to ethical and moral values that reflect the
principles of integrity, compassion, and social responsibility upheld by the University.

4.    Positive Influence: Nominees should have a history of positive influence and impact on the lives of others, both through their professional accomplishments and their commitment to the well-being of their communities.

Nomination and Selection Process:

1.    Nominations: Nominations for Honorary Doctorate Degrees may be submitted by members of the University community, including faculty, staff, trustees, and alumni. Nominations must include a comprehensive nomination package outlining the nominee’s qualifications and contributions.

2.    Review Committee: The University shall establish an Honorary Degree Review Committee consisting of representatives from various University constituencies. This committee will be responsible for evaluating nominations and making recommendations for Honorary Doctorate Degree recipients.

3.    Approval: Final approval for the conferral of Honorary Doctorate Degrees rests with the University’s Board of Directors.

Conferral and Ceremony:

1.    Notification: Upon approval, recipients of Honorary Doctorate Degrees shall be notified of the University’s decision.

2.    Ceremony: The formal conferral of Honorary Doctorate Degrees shall take place during the University’s commencement ceremony or another suitable academic or public event.

3.    Honorary Degree Citation: Each recipient shall be presented with a diploma and an honorary degree citation that outlines their accomplishments and contributions. 

Use of Honorary Doctorate Degree Title Policy

Introduction:
Mainseed Christian University is committed to recognizing the outstanding contributions and achievements of individuals in various fields who have been awarded honorary doctorate degrees by the university. The purpose of this policy is to provide guidance on the appropriate use of the honorary doctorate degree title (“Dr.”) by recipients in a manner that respects the
academic integrity and traditions of the university.

1. Use of the Title:
Recipients of honorary doctorate degrees from Mainseed Christian University may use the title “Dr.” before their name in appropriate contexts. It is important to use the title transparently and responsibly, making it clear that the degree is honorary.

2. Transparency:
Recipients are encouraged to use the title “Dr.” with transparency, particularly when representing the university, to avoid any potential misunderstanding regarding their academic credentials. A statement indicating the degree as honorary may be included when appropriate.

3. Academic Regalia:
Recipients may be invited to wear academic regalia, including caps and gowns, when participating in university events and ceremonies. The decision to wear academic regalia is at the discretion of the recipient.

4. Official Documents and
Correspondence:
Recipients may include the honorary doctorate degree title on official documents, such as biographical information, websites, and professional correspondence, as long as it is used transparently.

5. Institutional Events:
Mainseed Christian University may introduce honorary doctorate recipients as “Dr. [Full Name]” during institutional events, such as commencement ceremonies or public lectures, to acknowledge their achievements.

6. Consultation:
Recipients with questions about the appropriate use of the honorary doctorate degree title or specific situations are encouraged to consult with the university’s administration or relevant individuals within the institution for guidance.

7. Periodic Review:
This policy is subject to periodic review and updates by Mainseed Christian University, as institutional practices evolve over time.

Revocation:

The University reserves the right to revoke an Honorary Doctorate Degree in exceptional cases where the recipient’s subsequent actions or behaviors are in direct conflict with the values and principles of the University. Revocation will be considered only after careful review and deliberation by the Board of Directors.

Implementation:

This policy shall be implemented and administered by the University’s Academic Affairs Office, in collaboration with the Honorary Degree Review Committee and other relevant university departments.

Review and Amendment:

This policy shall be periodically reviewed and may be amended as necessary to reflect changes in the University’s
values, goals, or procedures, or to address unforeseen circumstances. Any amendments to this policy shall be approved by the University’s Board of Directors.
